Undergraduate Students

Northern Vermont University accepts applications via the Common Application and our secure, online NVU Application. First-time college students and transfer students applying for admission to our campus-based programs (regardless of whether you plan to live on campus or commute) at Johnson or Lyndon should follow the instructions below.

Deadlines

Northern Vermont University accepts applications on a rolling basis. This means that we review applications and admit qualified applicants throughout the year. Admitted applicants can begin in the fall, spring, or summer.

However, the sooner you get your application in, the better. Housing, financial aid awards, and first-semester class selection are all first-come, first-served, so the sooner you apply, the more options you’ll have if accepted.

Application Procedure

First-year undergraduate applicants (including transfer and international students) should submit the following to be considered for admission to Northern Vermont University:

  • A completed application
  • A $50 application fee
  • Official high school transcript* including first quarter senior grades or official scores from a high school equivalency exam (General Education Development or GED Certificate). Home-schooled applicants, submit your high school curriculum or certified program approved by the home state, if applicable)
  • Optional essay/personal statement
  • Optional SAT/ACT test scores. NVU is test optional; however, if you register for the SAT or ACT, use the following codes: SAT code: 3766; ACT code: 4316
  • A recorded audition if applying as a music education major at the NVU-Johnson campus. Please refer to the Audition Guidelines for instructions.
  • Other supporting documents, such as additional letters of recommendation. Send these documents directly to the campus where you are applying.
  • If you have 18 or more college credits on your transcript, you do not need to provide your high school transcript.

*Once an applicant is accepted and decides to enroll, a final official high school transcript including graduation date is required before a student may begin classes. For students with college credits, be sure to request the official college transcripts from the college/university where you enrolled. The college coursework will be evaluated once you have been admitted to NVU.
